If you’re traveling to Isla Murejes, you’ll probably need to take a ferry. This can be daunting if it’s your first time – but don’t worry. We’ve got some tips to help make the process as smooth as possible! Here are valuable tips for traveling by ferry to Isla Mujeres
Check the Ferry Schedule in Advance
The ferry to Isla Murejes only runs twice daily, so it’s essential to check the schedule and plan your trip accordingly. The ferry leaves at 09:00 and 16:00, and the journey takes approximately two hours. If you’re coming from the mainland, the best way to get to the ferry terminal is by taxi. There are always taxis available at the airport, and the fare to the ferry terminal should be around Pesos 200-250.
Keep Everything With You
Since there are only two ferries per day, and the journey takes a couple of hours, it’s essential to ensure you have everything you need with you at all times. This includes your passport, cash, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, snacks, and drinks.
If you’re traveling with young children, it’s also a good idea to bring some toys and books to keep them entertained. Once you’re on the island, there are a few small shops where you can buy snacks and drinks, but it’s always best to be prepared.
Turn Off Your Car Alarm
As soon as you board the ferry, turn off your car alarm. The staff will announce this over the PA system, but it’s always best to be proactive. The last thing you want is your car alarm to go off in the middle of the journey and disturb all the other passengers. Once you arrive on the island, plenty of parking spots are available. Just follow the signs to the parking area, and you’ll be fine.
Plan to Arrive at Atleast 30 Min Early
Make sure to arrive at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. This will give you plenty of time to park your car, buy your tickets, and board the ferry. If you’re running late, don’t worry – the ferry will wait for all passengers to board before departing. However, it’s always best to be on time.
